On the Design Floor 5/9/16

A little work has been in progress. This is a quilt that is being worked on for Quilts of Love and hopefully it will be finished before too long. I realized recently that sometimes it is a while between finishing the top and getting it quilted and bound. I hope to work on that issue and get caught up with my quilting before too much time passes. I have one that I just took off of the frames and several that need binding. I hope to be able to show you pictures of those in the coming weeks.

Baby quilt

I am sorry but I do not have the name of this quilt. There were a couple of these made and given to Quilts of Love.

Have a Blessed day everyone! We are having a rainy day, and maybe storms later.

Linking up with Patchworktimes.

Happy Quilting!

Fabric Happenings 8/30/15

Time keeps flying by faster than I can keep up. The new students are in class and I hope settled. There is such a frenzy this time of the year and it seems like it gets worse from our perspective every year. All I have been doing when I come home is vegging, hopefully next week will a much smoother work week. What I am looking forward to is the holiday weekend.

Carpenter's Star awaiting borders

Carpenter’s Star awaiting borders

A little progress was made Friday and Saturday on the Carpenter’s Star quilt and it is now together and waiting on borders. I cut them out yesterday and that is what accounts for my outage today. I also managed to get the quilts I had loaded on the quilt machine quilted yesterday. They were small so it did not talk very long. I have some binding in my future, I am trying to get several quilted so that when we move, I will have some hand stitching at night if everything else is unavailable.

Fabric in 0 yards
Fabric out ytd: 83.03 yards
Fabric in ytd: 27.5 yards
Total 55.53 yards out

Fabric Happenings 5/31/15

Well things went a little more smoothly yesterday than I figured they would. I ended up getting both of the quilts trimmed up and the border completed on the baby quilt. I did what looks like a feather stitch using a stitch length of 6.5. I like how quick it went, obviously, and I like the decorative stitch. I hope to have the other one finished this week also.

I also managed to get a few more pieces cut for the Island Chains quilt. I also hope to get the rest of the pieces cut for Island Chains this week. Altogether, I had a little fabric outage, without buying any fabric.

Fabric out 1.58 yards
Fabric in 0 yards
Fabric out ytd: 70.66 yards
Fabric in ytd: 27.5 yards
Total 43.16 yards out

Thanks for visiting and happy quilting!

Quilts of Love

One never knows how giving a quilt will affect the people getting the quilt, or even the people around the quilt. On Sunday we gave a quilt to one of the parishioners to take to her nephew. He was born with the blood vessels that supply blood to his heart switched, and a hole in his heart. They said the hole in his heart was the only reason he was alive because the hole allowed the blood to get oxygenated. They put a stent in his heart to keep the hole open and in about six weeks they are going to do surgery to reverse the blood vessel issue. I saw the aunt on Tuesday and she was telling me that one of her daughters had decided to make a quilt in her Home-EC class because the experience was so moving to her. I love to see the next generation get interested in quilting. It gives me hope that maybe the love of quilting will not die.

Happy Quilting!

To Sign or Not to Sign

Something I have been pondering for a while now. Do you sign quilts that you are planning to give away to charity? I have not been signing the quilts that we have given away other than Quilts of Love and the year if they are signed. I have not been very good about keeping up with doing that either. I know that the school of thought now is to sign the quilt but we do not make these quilts for recognition for us, we consider them a give from God. What do you think, to sign or not to sign?

Here is one of the baby quilts that we have ready to give away. This pattern comes from Quilts for Kids.

Fabric Happenings 2/22/15

Well I have some outage to report. Most of it is because I traded fabric for some work, but outage is moving the fabric out of my house and I am good with that. Missy traded me some quilting for some fabric and that is 10.75 out.

A baby quilt was quilted yesterday so I can count the backing for that also. Here is the quilt that was quilted yesterday. The pattern is called Quick Strippie comes from Mollie Johnson over @ MaryQuilts.

Play Day

Well after doing a little housework this morning, I had a play day. DH was out of town so Missy came and kept me company. We were working on a couple of quilts for Quilts of Love. Missy finished quilting the quilt that was on the frame and almost finished, then we had a leisurely lunch and visited for a while.

While Missy was quilting, I was getting the next quilt ready to go on the frame. I squared up the quilt and got the backing cut, then we loaded a baby quilt and it was quilted it also. Now we have some bindings to finish. Here is the baby quilt that Missy took home to bind.

Next we cut some half yard pieces of batiks for Missy to take home. I will have some outage to report tomorrow. Woohoo! In return for the fabric, Missy is going to quilt a couple of my quilts that are backlogged which helps both of us.

I hope you found some time to get something quilty done today.
